Local man arrested early Friday morning for warrants and numerous other new charges, including multiple felonies. As a result of the arrest, stolen property was recovered belonging to 8 victims.
In the early morning hours, on 10/28/2016, Deputies working on the Utah County Sheriff’s Office Recreation Team encountered a vehicle that was trespassing after hours at the Rock Canyon Trailhead in Provo Canyon. Upon approaching the vehicle, Deputies found the driver to be passed out in the driver’s seat.
The driver, a 32 year old Utah County man, was identified as Dallas Leon Draper. A records check showed he had several active warrants for his arrest. After being placed under arrest, deputies searched Mr. Draper and located a large piece of Heroin on his person. A subsequent search of the vehicle resulted in deputies locating Marijuana and drug paraphernalia.
Additionally, deputies recovered multiple other items of interest within the vehicle to include: two driver licenses, a vehicle title, and a passport. Each of these items belonged to other persons. Ultimately, these items were determined to have been stolen by contacting the owners or locating law enforcement incident reports previously reporting them as stolen.
Mr. Draper was also found to be in possession of several forged checks or stolen checks and other miscellaneous stolen items such as backpacks, suitcases, wallets, etc. In total, Mr. Draper had in his possession stolen items from 8 different victims living in Orem, Vineyard, American Fork, West Jordan, Salt Lake, and Clearfield. Finally, as deputies investigated the vehicle information, they discovered that it had been stolen from the Provo front runner station approximately two weeks earlier but the owner was not aware of the theft until deputies confirmed it with him.
