March 15-21, 2015

Ben Franklin wisely advised, "An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure." National Poison Prevention Week brings awareness to the dangers of poisoning and provides an opportunity to promote prevention tips and strategies to help reduce poisonings. Poisonings are preventable and treatable and there's a resource to help -- the Utah Poison Control Center. The Poison Help Line at 1-800-222-1222 connects you to nurses, doctors, pharmacists and poison experts 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year to provide free and confidential advice on how to handle an emergency. Their web site -- www.utahpoisoncontrol.org -- provides educational prevention materials for your family or your group.

Join with the Utah County Health Department, Utah Department of Drug and Alcohol Prevention and Treatment, and the Utah Poison Control Center to fight to prevent accidental poisonings in our community. Go to www.utahpoisoncontrol.org to learn more, order poison prevention materials, download lesson plans for all ages, "like" them on Facebook (Utah Poison Control Center, and follow them on Twitter @UtahPoison. Help spread the poison prevention message during this important week!
