Victims identified in Spanish Fork Canyon plane crash.
According to Utah County Sheriff's Office investigators, the Cesna 172 airplane had two occupants on board. The pilot, Nicholas Soter (age 66) of Orem, Utah and passenger, Gerald Wilson (age 50) of South Jordan, Utah were conducting Radar Ground Mapping this morning when their plane became distressed.
In his attempt to conduct an emergency landing on SR-89, Mr. Soter clipped an electrical line. However, it is not known if this contributed to the eventual crash. Tragically, Mr. Wilson died as a result of the crash and Mr. Soter was transported to a local hospital reportedly in critical condition. At this time, the highway has been opened up to travel again.
Our condolences go out to the Soter and Wilson families as they try to deal with this tragedy.
