Youth Groups, OUTRAGE, Island Teens Against Tobacco and Latinos In Action, will offer cultural demonstrations, music and karate demos from 5-7 p.m., March 20

Utah County Health Department is fighting back against the tobacco industry's tactics to addict youth, with a Kick Butts Day Party. OUTRAGE will be educating mall-goers about new tobacco products that resemble candy. Youth will collect signatures from people who pledge to remain tobacco- free and want to stand up against Big Tobacco. Each signature will become a ring in a massive paper chain that will continue to grow throughout the year. This massive paper chain will be displayed next year on Kick Butts Day in March 2014. At the event, expect to see:

  • Demonstrations of Karate prowess by OUTRAGE members, Utah County's anti-tobacco youth group and United Studios of Self Defense (USSD)
  • Cultural dances performed by Island Teens Against Tobacco and Latinos in Action
  • ZHT radio station broadcasting live from the location

The event will take palce Wednesday, March 20, 2013, from 5-7pm at the Provo Towne Centre Mall, 1200 Towne Center Blvd, second floor food court, near the carousel.

Kick Butts Day is a nationally recognized day designated to empower youth to stand up, speak out and seize control of Big Tobacco's tactics. In the United States, tobacco use kills more than 400,000 people every year -- more than AIDS, alcohol, car accidents, illegal drugs, murders and suicides combined.
