LIBRARY HISTORYThe Utah County Bookmobile came into being in Fall 1975. By the following spring, it was operating two bookmobile vehicles to provide services to the County. For twenty years, it was housed in rented facilities in Spanish Fork, first in the old school building and then in two buildings on Main Street. At that time, the fixed facility was not open to the public. In 1995, the library became a guest of the city of Mapleton. Its current home is a building that was first a grocery store and then a pizza parlor. Mapleton residents volunteered to clean and paint the space and help shelve the books. As neighboring regions were transferred to other library jurisdictions, the Utah County Bookmobile Library shrank. It now operates one mobile unit in the County. The library hopes to be able to move to a facility adjacent to the city park, the Mapleton Heritage Museum and the Levi Kendall Home. This building, recently constructed to house pumps used to remediate contaminated water, would give the library an appropriate home with room for future growth. STATISTICS
